Go Ahead Eagles Vs Aston Villa

We are on a roll! 5 successive wins, which started in the opening Europa League game, a 1-0 win over Bologna.

We then followed up with a win against Fulham before a trip back to Rotterdam to play Feyenoord. Strikes from Emi Buendia and John McGinn sealed a 2-0 win and maximum points in Europa League.

Two Premier League wins later including 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, and we are back in Europa League action and back to Holland!

This time we travel to Deventer to play Go Ahead Eagles. They are in their first main European campaign for 60 years after winning the KNVB cup on penalties (4-2) after a 1-1 draw with AZ Alkmaar.

They had an inconsistent start to their domestic league campaign, and are currently in 12th place. They also started their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 defeat at home to Romanian side FCSB. They responded superbly in their next game in the campaign, with a 2-1 win in Greece against Panathinaikos. They are currently 15th in Europa League league stage with ourselves sitting joint top (3rd).

There  are not much changes to injury front, so you would expect the same personnel to be involved in the match. Tyrone Mings has travelled with the team and may be available for selection, or at least a seat on the bench.

The big question for Mister is whether to continue with Marco Bizot in goal. He has started the two previous games due to slight injuries niggles to first choice Emi Martinez.

Bizot has done fairly well in most of his appearances and has played in all the cup games for us so far. I wouldn’t mind at all, if he was given a chance to keep a third clean sheet.

So in all, feeling confident but Go Eagles certainly should not be underestimated. After all our away form in Europe last year was patchy, including league stage defeats to Club Brugge and Monaco.

A win would see us winning 3 games in row in Europe for a second successive season. If we then follow this up with home wins in November against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Young Boys, we should be looking good for a top 8 place towards the business end of the competition in the Spring.
