Aston Villa Vs Bologna Agg 3-1

We produced another fine away win in Europe and our first on Italian soil, on the 4th attempt. Having survived Konsa’s own goal getting overruled by VAR, Konsa then headed one in to give us a half-time lead.

Ollie Watkins’ double has given us a 3-1 advantage going into the 2nd leg. Bologna are not to be underestimated especially as they have a good record away from home this season. Jon Rowe impressed for them and scored a fine goal, so we will need to get tighter to him.

There are no new serious injury concerns although Emi Martinez pulled out during the warm up in the 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest. He should be back although Marco Bizot has generally done well in goal for us.

More of an issue, is that there are five players one yellow away from a suspension in a possible Semi-Final. Captain John McGinn will need to tread a fine line plus Matty Cash, Lucas Digne, Victor Lindelof and Morgan Rogers also need to be careful.

Our potential opponents for Semi Final are Nottingham Forest or Porto. They drew 1-1 in Portugal, to bring a big showdown at City Ground.

So far, so good in April, looking good in Europe and in a healthy position in the League but there will be many more challenges ahead before the season end’s. Would you bet against us?
